What are the side effects of electrolysis?
Post treatment includes redness (erythema) and bumpiness. This is completely normal and will usually subside after a few hours. For some, the redness can last longer.
Is electrolysis painful?
Short answer- everyone’s senstivity is different. Some people experience more sensitivity than others but it is comparable to laser hair removal and/or waxing.
The more tolerant you are to treatment, the quicker the process will go. Which is why usually recommend applying a topical anesthetic (EMLA, BLT, or Lidocaine) 15-20 minutes prior to treatment. If you are transitioning, talk to your health care provider about a compounded prescription.
Does Electrolysis remove hair permanently?
Yes, electrolysis is considered the only FDA and AMA-approved form of permanent hair removal. It works by insertion of a needle-like probe into the follicle and applying an electric current to destroy the hair. This prevents the hair from growing back and over time the treated area becomes smooth and hair free.
